That, my friends, is exactly the story behind Westshore Skin and Health Center. Founded in 1990 by Lynn and Gabriel Dellapasta, Westshore Skin and Health Center has been at the forefront of the skin care industry since its inception. We stopped by this pioneering company recently and listed as Lynn captivated us with her story and her dedication;
When I was twenty-four years old, I developed cystic adult acne and my skin was horrible, it was a nightmare. I began going to dermatologists in the Greater Cleveland area, and each one tried to do their best but nothing was working. I was on a round of antibiotics non-stop for 13 years, and when the Accutane prescribed by my final dermatologist failed after a two years, I decided to start doing some research on my own.
I went to the medical section of the North Olmsted library and began pulling books on skin, skin care, and dermatological problems with skin. I pulled all those books off the shelf, started reading them, and ended up taking a couple of them home. One of those books led me to a doctor in California, whose staff members ended up teaching me all about acne, why certain people get acne, and why certain people don't. I was on a mission to discover why I was having this problem, and why even members of my own family had never experienced anything like this.
This doctor had a small laboratory where he made his own products, and once I began using them, my acne started clearing up. With the help of his staff, I learned why people get acne and which ingredients in basic beauty products to avoid. The following year, my husband and I returned to California to attend an esthetic trade show where the doctor, his staff, and his wife were teaching what to do about about acne, how to treat it, and which products worked better than others. He introduced us to the chemist he had been working with and we began to make our own product line.
Over the following seven or eight years, we constantly refined our products. We had learned from the doctor and his staff that everyone has individual needs and an eight product line simply meet the needs of millions of people. He taught us to custom blend compatible products so if we had a woman with an oily T zone area, but her cheeks were very dry and flaky, we could blend several products together to meet her individual needs.
I returned to school in 1989 and was licensed by the State of Ohio as a P.M.E. so I could help other people with their skin care needs. About a year later my husband became licensed, also, and we opened our skin care clinic in early 1990 because I'm determined to be able to help other people solve the problem that took me thirteen years to solve.
Westshore Skin and Health Center offers acne treatments within a very affordable price range for people of all ages. I never suffered from acne as a teenager, but 80% of all teens have some grade of acne. When they get to their mid to late 20s, most will outgrow it, but some never develop acne till later in life. We've treated 3 year old clients with congested pores, teenagers, young adults, middle-ged individuals, and women who start to develop acne as they head into menopause. We specialize in anti-aging treatments utilizing the benefits of glycolic acid gels, lactic acid treatments, and salicylic acid treatments. We use special fruit acids that to decongest the pores, resurface the skin, build new collagen, and erase fine lines and wrinkles. We also specialize in microdermabrasion, and all of our clients are treated without the use of drugs.
At Westshore Skin and Health Center, we were the very first skin care specialists in Ohio to use glycolic acid and the other fruit acids. We were also the first skin care specialists in the entire State of Ohio to do microdermabrasion. We consider ourselves to be the forerunners and the leaders in all these newest procedures that are now available to help keep your skin healthy and beautiful without surgery. Our society is very youth-driven and we make it possible for a person who is 55 years old to not only clear up their complexion while getting rid of stress-induced adult acne, but also eliminate age spots, brown spots, lines and wrinkles. Without surgery we can help a 50 year old client look like they're only 37 or 38 years old.
The newest addition to our clinic is our laser machine which was added in April 2004. Using the Cyton laser, we can literally vaporize off the lines, wrinkles, and creases. Our laser can erase the scars left from a battle with acne, and we use it to remove unwanted hair from the upper lip, chin, cheeks, underarms, bikini line, and legs. We have a technician on staff who specializes in laser hair removal.
